The conflict between the Kogi State government and Dangote Group over ownership of Obajana cement has resulted in an unusual uprising in the state, with youths across the local governments launching massive protests, giving Dangote Group a three-day deadline to cede the company.
Hundreds of protesters carrying various placards halted operations in Obajana, Ankpa, and other mining sites on Tuesday.
The protests spread yesterday to Lokoja local government, the state capital, Ogori, and other areas, with citizens declaring their support for their governor, Yahaya Bello.
Students are left out in the uproar. The National Association of Kogi State Students has threatened to seek international justice for the state.
Meanwhile, Dangote Group has maintained that the Obajana cement plant, which was originally established by the state government, does not belong to Kogi.
The state government provided documents proving that the company was owned by the state, whereas Dangote Group has failed to provide any tangible evidence that it used to exchange the largest cement plant in Africa with the state government.
As the protests gain traction, Dangote trailers are reportedly being barred from entering the state, with the youths threatening to shut down any Dangote Group activity in the state.
